Equal Lives host successful Independent Living Event 2016 17/10/2016
Equal Lives hosted their Independent Living Event last Wednesday 12th October which enabled people in the community to come along and talk to over 50 local organisations about the services and activities they offer to support independent living. The event was free to attend and offered a café area where Tesco provided free hot drinks and café Britannia serviced sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes.
Stallholders were asked to offer something interactive to the public this year, Busseys featured a Motability car, Engage Norfolk provided craft activities and afternoon tea, Wiltshire Farm Food brought along taster meals, Age UK Norfolk were busy knitting big knit hats, Three Family Fist Kung Fu brought along martial arts training weapons and Moneywise Homesafe ran a competition to see which basket of toiletries was cheaper Poundland or Boots?
The Nancy Oldfield Trust brought along a sailing boat and Stephen Bradnock said “We had some very interested potential visitors and some ideas for the future”
A member of public who attended the event said “There has been a good range of organisations and it is a good venue, friendly and welcoming.”
The event was supported by four Sponsors N-able, Fosters, Busseys and Mark Bates. Information talks ran throughout the day and Fosters talked about Will’s as in November they are offering Will’s for reduced costs of which 100% is being donated to charity and Equal Lives is one of their chosen charities.
It is hoped Equal Lives will run the event again next year. Jon Moore Chair of Equal Lives said “I would like to thank all of our sponsors, supporters and stallholders who have made this second annual Independent Living Event a huge success.”
