Rape exemption clause for tax credits ‘in chaos’, says MP Alison Thewliss

The Government has changed the rules for Tax Credits and Universal Credit so that families will only be given additional money through those benefits for up to two children – a third child born after 6th April 2017 will not attract additional help.  There are exemptions, for example when a mother has twins or even larger multiple births, or where a child is born after the mother has been raped.  This article talks about the problems of a raped woman providing evidence so that she is allowed the exemption.
