Barriers to Political Representation for Disabled People

Tell Us Your Experience of Running for Political Office

Following our earlier post in February regarding the Government’s research into disabled people’s access to political representation, we now know the specific questions they are looking to answer:

  • What are the main barriers to political representation for disabled people?
  • Which organisations do you think could help to remove those barriers?
  • What does a good system for supporting disabled candidates look like to help remove or address those barriers?

If you have any thoughts on any or all of those questions, please get in touch. Likewise, if you have any experience of standing for political office, whether it be local council or as candidate for national Government, we would also love to hear about that experience. We will then pass this on to the Government Equalities Office.

You can share your experience by email to or through the tell us your story page on our website
